Job Description
Mō te tūranga | About the role
Permanent | Part-time – 40 hours per fortnight (flexible hours available).
Reporting to the Head of People & Organisation, with day-to-day direction from the Payroll Manager.
This is a key payroll support role that helps ensure payroll services are delivered accurately and on time.
The Payroll Coordinator helps deliver accurate and timely fortnightly payroll services. The role maintains employee payroll data, processes approved payroll inputs, coordinates timesheets and leave information, completes routine checks, responds to general employee queries, and maintains payroll records and system access. It works within established procedures and deadlines, referring complex advisory, compliance and approval matters to the Payroll Manager.
This role is ideal for someone with payroll experience who can work flexibly around key payroll deadlines and contribute to accurate, on-time pay runs.
Key responsibilities include:
Employee payroll data maintenance
New starter documentation
Fortnightly payroll coordination
Timesheets, rosters and leave approvals
Time-and-attendance uploads and pay adjustments
Trial payroll checks
Error and anomaly resolution
Employee and manager payroll support
Lead payroll processing when the Payroll Manager is absent, with support from the People & Organisation team.
Desired Skills and Experience
Ō pūmanawa | What you will bring
Experience supporting payroll administration or processing in a deadline-driven environment.
Working knowledge of New Zealand payroll practices, PAYE, KiwiSaver, student loans and leave processing.
Experience using payroll and time-and-attendance systems; experience with Datacom and TimeFiler is advantageous.
Competence with Microsoft Excel and routine payroll reports, including checking information and documenting discrepancies.
Experience handling confidential employee information and maintaining accurate records.
As a bicultural organisation, we are looking for someone who demonstrates cultural awareness and understands the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Museum’s role within Auckland’s cultural landscape.
