Job Description
Mō te tūranga | About the role
You will manage the end‑to‑end Accounts Payable process for your alphabet split, making sure invoices, staff expenses, and payments are processed accurately and on time. You’ll also help keep our TechOne purchasing system running smoothly, supporting staff, maintaining data, and contributing to improvements that make purchasing easier across the Museum.
You will support month‑end and year‑end processes by preparing journals, completing reconciliations, and assisting with financial reporting for both Auckland Museum and the Auckland Museum Institute. You’ll also contribute to cashflow forecasting, retail accounting, GST returns, and other core financial tasks. As part of a collaborative Finance team, you’ll provide backup across AP and Assistant Accountant functions to ensure great service and continuity.
Desired Skills and Experience
Ō pūmanawa | What you will bring
Proven experience in Accounts Payable and accounting (3+ years in a medium–large organisation).
A tertiary accounting qualification that supports strong foundational knowledge.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and a commitment to high‑quality financial processing.
Excellent time‑management skills and confidence working to deadlines.
A collaborative, customer‑centred approach with the ability to build positive relationships across the Museum.
Strong communication skills - clear, approachable, and solutions‑focused.
Proactive problem‑solving skills and a willingness to take ownership of issues.
Flexibility to support a wide range of finance tasks and provide backup across the team.
Intermediate Excel skills and experience using ERP finance systems (TechOne experience an advantage).
A positive, can‑do attitude and the ability to stay calm and organised in a busy environment.
