Job Description

Mō te tūranga | About the role

We are looking for an Associate Curator, Archaeology to join our team.  This permanent role supports the provision of curatorial expertise to develop Auckland Museum’s Archaeology collection, promote collection access and answer public enquires. They will have a role in contributing to the development of exhibitions and undertake research activities related to the Archaeology collection.

This role is responsible for:

  • Facilitating access to the Archaeology collection for iwi, hapū, whānau, researchers etc
  • Responding to enquires on the Archaeology collection
  • Contributing to collection development and new acquisitions for the collection
  • Undertaking research on the Archaeology collection

Desired Skills and Experience

Ō pūmanawa | What you will bring

  • Relevant post graduate qualification or extensive experience in a relevant field
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Archaeology collections
  • Knowledge and experience working with and handling faunal collections
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Archaeology collections and their interpretive value, and as a core resource for museum activities
  • A collaborative approach and excellent interpersonal skills will be essential in dealing with diverse groups including, iwi and whānau, researchers, the public and museum project teams, across all tiers of the museum

Closing Date:  Sunday, 24 August 2025.  We may contact strong candidates regarding interviews prior to the closing date of this advert. Starting salary guide: $79,000 to $83,900 pa dependant on relevant experience.
