Job Description

Mō te tūranga | About the role

As our Finance Manager, you’ll play a pivotal leadership role in managing the Museum’s financial operations and planning processes. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you’ll lead a team responsible for financial and management accounting, ensure accurate and timely reporting, oversee forecasting and budgeting, and help drive business analysis to support strategic and operational decision-making. You will build strong partnerships across the organisation, contributing to income generation, resource optimisation and operational direction. This role also oversees key accounting systems and supports process improvement initiatives, while ensuring statutory and compliance requirements are met.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Chartered Accountant qualification (CAANZ or equivalent)
  • Over 5 years of experience managing financial operations, producing accurate financial statements, and delivering reports to support strategic decision-making

Key Skills and Competencies: 

  • Analytical and Strategic Thinking: Exceptional ability to analyze financial data, interpret trends, and evaluate organizational performance to inform strategic decisions
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in financial and accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite, and project management tools. Knowledge of automation trends and adaptability to emerging financial technologies
  • Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Skilled in resolving financial discrepancies and addressing unexpected challenges while maintaining operational efficiency
  • Attention to Detail and Organization: Meticulous in managing budgets and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. Strong organizational skills to handle multiple priorities effectively
  • Leadership and Team Management: Proven experience in leading and managing teams, fostering cross-functional relationships, and providing financial thought leadership to support executive decision-making
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial systems for robust data analysis and reporting
