Job Description
Mō te tūranga | About the role
Thesecurity department at Auckland Museum wishes to increase its casual pool of Safety and Security Officer personnel. This is casual work, so as and when needed only, and therefore there are no set days of work or minimum weekly hours offered. Casual staff are contacted to check their availability if one of the permanent staff call in sick or when a permanent member books future annual leave and cover of their shifts is required. The casual shifts offered are usually 12 hours in length, with either a 0700 or 1900 start time. The team work a 24/7 roster, so the casual shifts on offer could be a day or night shift on any day across Monday to Sunday. As a casual employee you will have the right to decline any shifts that don’t suit you and just accept the ones that you are available to work.
Offering an hourly rate of $27.60, the Safety and Security Officers are responsible for manning a high-spec operations control room and undertaking patrols throughout the Museum. You will protect the Museums' people, property and assets by ensuring the safety of the museum and providing excellent service to the Museum's customers. Full training is provided and this could be undertaken over a full week of work or over several weekends – yes, you will be paid for these training hours.

Reliability is key in this role, so if a casual Safety and Security Officer accepts a future shift to work, we expect them to be present and focused on that shift. We seek casual staff with a positive work ethic, strong time management skills and those who enjoy teamwork. These casual opportunities will not suit people hunting for full-time or permanent work, due to being unable to guarantee minimum hours.
Ideally those who apply will have prior experience operating access, security, surveillance systems and software, radio and phone operations
Proven competence on Microsoft Office and Windows 365 applications, Outlook and Explorer is required
Reliable transportation or the ability to attend 0700 or 1900 shift starts
An approachable manner and patience; being helpful and pleasant, a good listener and tolerant of people and processes
A reasonable level of fitness consistent with the physical demands of the job
Self-motivation and the demonstrated ability to work sole charge on occasions, as well as effectively in a close-knit and fast-paced team
