Auckland War Memorial Museum: Connecting through sharing stories of people, lands and seas

Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland's identity, committed to outstanding management of its world-class collections, developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events, educational programmes and the permanent and volunteer staff who tell the Museum's stories. We are Auckland's home of commemoration as well as the country’s oldest research institution and a major tourist destination.

Job Description

The Museum’s Property Services team requires additional personnel for its current Facilities casual staffing pool. With building facilities requirements, in addition to infrastructure works underway or in the planning stages, there is a growing need for the Facilities Casual pool to assist the Facilities & Planning Team Leader and Facilities Assistants at different times on an 'as and when needed' basis. Tasks will involve physically moving furniture in function and event areas and escorting contractors for onsite work, and may also include occasionally removing graffiti, assisting with maintenance and repairs or assisting with blocked toilets, so a 'can-do' attitude is a must!

The work of these casual roles will happen within the constraints of working in a heritage building that is open every day to the public, therefore flexibility with working hours is required as there may be some requests for early morning, evenings, holidays and/or weekend work. As mentioned this is work of a casual nature so flexibility is required with these roles having no set working days or guaranteed weekly hours.

Desired Skills and Experience

To be successful in these casual positions, candidates will offer;

  • A reasonable level of fitness and strength due to the physical requirements of the role, which will include regular amounts of manual handling and lifting
  • Prior experience in furniture removal or manual handling is highly beneficial
  • Previous labouring or commercial maintenance experience is an advantage, but not essential
  • The availability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evening, holidays and/or weekends if required
  • A current First Aid Certificate, or the willingness and ability to undertake and pass First Aid training if this certification if required
  • Effective verbal communication skills, with a responsive, collaborative and enthusiastic manner

You must be currently eligible to work in New Zealand to be considered for these casual positions. Please view the full position description here or click on 'apply now' if viewing from within Seek to view the job description.

Closing date: Sunday 20 October 2024
