Job Description

An exciting opportunity exists for friendly and highly motivated part-time Retail Assistant to join our Hokohoko Museum Store team. We are looking for an experienced Retail Assistant who is committed to working within a team and on occasion when required can work autonomously in our main store and Exhibition Store.

The role is as varied as the working environment and will require enthusiasm, warmth, flexibility and the ability to confidently handle situations that may arise. Led by the Retail Manager, you will work within the Retail Team to champion our goals of becoming the preferred cultural retail shopping experience in Tāmaki Makaurau.

You will play a key role in supporting your fellow team members mission to enhance customer experience through our role as story tellers and the connections we make with customers through the artists we support and the products we promote. You will work closely within our team to achieve sales targets and share in the day-to-day retail sales and operations both on-site and on-line.

Applicants with sales and customer facing experience would be preferred, especially those with cultural retail experience.

This a permanent part-time position, from Tuesday through Saturday, 24 hours per week. This roster includes a late night on Tuesday.

Desired Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A passion for Māori and New Zealand arts, crafts, culture and history.
  • A minimum of 4 full years' experience in achieving high performance in a retail sales environment, preferably one that includes online sales
  • A confident and engaging manner with the ability to work with a diverse client, customer, team and supplier base.
  • Ability to demonstrate proactive awareness and engagement with a wide range of cultures and associated protocol and traditions within Auckland, with particular reference to the Māori Dimension (He Kōrahi Māori) and Pacific Dimension (Teu le Vā).
  • A positive attitude and desire to enhance Auckland Museum's reputation for excellence.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement approach to your work with a high level of attention to detail, organisational skills and awareness of visual merchandising techniques.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work in a way consistent with Museum values, building a cohesive and productive team.
  • Competency in Microsoft Suite and POS systems.
  • Energetic with a desire to work in a fast-paced and lively organisation, with a willingness to further develop your personal skills and stretch your capability.
